What You Should Know About Directional Tires!

Most new Performance Tires with slightly aggressive tread patterns are Directional Tires. Which means that these tires have a special tread pattern or groves which are angled to improve handling, They also channel water out from under the tire on wet surfaces. By doing this, Directional Tires reduce hydroplaning and improve wet traction. Basically Directional Tires are high performance rain tires, along the line of what racers use. So just how do you know if you have Directional Tires? Just look for small arrows on the tire sidewalls that indicate which way the tire must turn. Mixing directional tires with non-directional tires is not recommended.
If you are starting off with a new set of Custom Rims and Performance Tires purchased online, you will need to install your package correctly. The first step is to match each new custom rim and tire to it's final position on your vehicle. In other words place the rims and tires upright near each wheel well with the arrow pointing in the right direction. If your rear tires are wider than the front do these first and then the front tires. If you are just wanting to rotate the tires on your car, truck or SUV, check to make sure they are not Directional Tires and all four tires are the same size. If they are the same size rotate your tires any way you want to. Crossing them in an X pattern is usually recommended. If your tires are not the same size front to rear you are out of luck. You just can't do it. By rotating custom rims and tires this way, all tires will be turning the wrong way. The correct way of rotating Directional Tires when all four tires are of the same size is to rotate front to back on the same side. Always remember this rule Directional Tires must stay on the same side of the car.
